How did I come to be a coach?

After many years of working in management positions in HR, I still enjoyed working with people. However, I often found myself in conflict between top management and middle management, as the different expectations, understanding of roles and value systems often seemed difficult to reconcile. I felt torn and my energy was increasingly depleted without being able to replenish it quickly enough or at all.

A change was needed. I even looked for ways to get out.

The opportunity to take over the management of a technology company in software development in Berlin in 2022 postponed the inevitable breakout and at the same time it intensified. Delayed because I now had a direct influence on the corporate and leadership culture. I was able to live leadership in a human way, as I had always understood it, and establish empowerment-oriented leadership. At the same time, my path to becoming a coach was strengthened as I now had a better understanding of the challenges facing business leaders. My understanding of where to start to help leaders and teams in organizations clarify and improve their roles deepened.

What I still lacked was the right tools to use this understanding and these experiences and make them usable for people in similar situations. Because the motivation to help in this way is what drives me.

Coaching manifested as the obvious solution.

After intensive research - where there are countless suppliers on the market with quality levels that are difficult to assess - I decided on COATRAIN®.

Why Coatrain?

The initial consultation immediately got to the heart of my concerns. I felt a deep connection and felt understood in terms of my professional career and my thoughts. All the criteria were met. There was a shared understanding of leadership, appreciation, respect and human interaction. The training content was presented clearly and concisely without getting lost in empty phrases, as is the case with many other providers. The small number of participants in the training groups also ensures that you can quickly immerse yourself in the practical implementation.

One particular aspect stood out to me: Coaches are often portrayed as mere listeners and opinion-free questioners. Coatrain, on the other hand, clearly states that a coach - in moderation and within reason - can and should take a stand. After all, a well-trained coach with appropriate field expertise does not come from the neighborhood playground. Even if the exact route and destination are not known down to the smallest detail, the coach steers the carriage safely in the right direction, always ensuring that the coachees are accompanied safely on their journey.

The founders of COATRAIN® are active coaches themselves and at the same time participate in expert committees that have played a key role in the DBVC (Deutscher Bundesverband Coaching e.V.) in shaping the profession and the role of the coach. This gives me access to the international environment through the IOBC, the only international umbrella organization for professional coaching with an exclusive focus on leadership and business coaching.

What does field expertise

actually mean?

Field expertise refers to the experience that a coach brings to the table in the specific areas in which he or she works as a coach. In my case, this includes over 20 years of experience in the areas of human resources, people management, change management, process design, as well as consulting and mentoring executives. This experience often, but not exclusively, extends to technology-oriented industries and the healthcare sector - from start-ups to medium-sized companies and corporate environments. Of course, I would never claim to have experienced everything because, after all, we work with people (and that's what makes it so exciting). Nevertheless, I am convinced that together we can work on and solve any problem.
